[Saba Sports News] NBA legend Michael Jordan celebrated Vince Carter’s induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame with a heartfelt message.
Jordan, a fellow UNC Tar Heel and Omega Psi Phi fraternity brother, embraced Carter and said, “Congratulations, man,” in a moment shared on the NBA’s social media.
Carter, an eight-time All-Star, began his career as the fifth overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft with the Golden State Warriors before being traded to the Toronto Raptors, where he became a star.
Known for his powerful athleticism and unforgettable dunks, Carter won the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest and earned Olympic gold with Team USA that same year, famously dunking over 7’2″ Frédéric Weis—a move dubbed the “Dunk of Death.”
Carter and Jordan also shared a memorable moment during the 2003 All-Star Game. Carter, then a starter, insisted on giving his spot to Jordan in what was Jordan’s final All-Star appearance.
Reflecting on the gesture, Carter recalled, “I felt it was the right thing to do… I told him, ‘I’m not starting this game if you’re sitting on the bench.’”
