[Saba Sports News] The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly considering a repeat of their 2021 strategy. According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, the Lakers are thinking about trading for Chicago Bulls’ veteran big man Andre Drummond before the trade deadline. The team believes Drummond could be a strategic asset, especially in a potential playoff scenario against the Denver Nuggets and their formidable front line.
Drummond, a two-time All-Star and four-time NBA rebounding champion, is currently on a budget-friendly $3.4 million expiring contract. He previously played for the Lakers in the latter part of the 2020-21 season after joining them through the buyout market. However, his stint with the Lakers was short-lived, as he moved to the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency following the Lakers’ first-round playoff exit against the Phoenix Suns.
At 30, Drummond has shown some resurgence in value with the Bulls, averaging 7.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in a consistent bench role. Despite this, he has had issues with defense and decision-making, which initially led to his falling out with the Lakers.
Drummond has acknowledged the challenges of playing for the Lakers. Nevertheless, with the Lakers currently at a .500 record and seeking additional size to complement Anthony Davis, they might consider bringing the 6-foot-11 Drummond back into the fold.
