The Celtics crushed the New York Knicks 132-109 on opening night at TD Garden. What was expected to be a showdown between Eastern Conference contenders quickly turned into a lopsided affair, with the Celtics sinking 10 three-pointers in the first quarter, burying the Knicks in a hole they never escaped.
Despite trailing by at least 19 points throughout the second half, some late drama unfolded. Al Horford hit Boston’s 29th three-pointer with 8:54 left, tying the NBA record for most threes in a game.
However, the Celtics’ bench struggled to break the record, missing their last 13 attempts. With one final chance to shoot, they instead dribbled out the clock, prompting some lighthearted boos from the crowd.
Boston finished tied with the 2020-21 Milwaukee Bucks for the three-point record, falling just one shot short.
