[Saba Sports News] The Phoenix Suns are bringing in a notable name from 2016.
The Valley Suns, the G League affiliate of the Phoenix Suns, announced this week the hiring of Paul Jesperson as an assistant coach under head coach John Little.
Jesperson is remembered by college basketball fans for his iconic halfcourt buzzer-beater for Northern Iowa in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, which stunned Texas in the Round of 64.
Although Northern Iowa fell to Texas A&M in the Round of 32, Jesperson’s shot remains legendary, especially since the team hasn’t returned to the tournament since.
Now 31, Jesperson went undrafted in 2016 and played a few seasons in Spain before transitioning to coaching. He gained NBA experience with the Atlanta Hawks from 2020-23 as an assistant video coordinator and player development coach, and most recently served as director of player development/assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma. Jesperson now joins the extended Phoenix Suns organization, known for its connection to March Madness legends.
