[Saba Sports News] The Golden State Warriors shouldn’t have needed heroics from Brandin Podziemski and Jonathan Kuminga. They dominated the Houston Rockets in the first half, building a 28-point lead through hot shooting, tight defense, and superior teamwork.
However, aggressive play from Houston’s Tari Eason and Amen Thompson sparked a comeback, aided by Golden State’s 18 missed free throws and a six-minute scoring drought due to Houston’s switch-everything defense.
Despite trailing in the final moments, the Warriors regained control, leading by two with 8.3 seconds left before Draymond Green’s errant inbounds pass and a foul on Eason led to free throws and his sixth foul, sending him to the bench. In overtime, Denver struggled with missed shots, and Kuminga’s late scoring surge, similar to Podziemski’s key buckets in the fourth quarter, helped Golden State secure a dramatic 127-121 win.
Podziemski impressed with his isolation scoring against tough defenders, hinting at his high potential. “Brandin made some huge shots down the stretch,” said coach Steve Kerr. Kuminga took over in overtime, using his size and skill to break down the defense. Kerr praised, “We needed JK’s ability to beat the switches and get downhill.”
The Warriors view Podziemski and Kuminga as crucial to their future, refusing to trade them for star players in the offseason. While their best days are ahead, their development this season could play a significant role in the team’s success through the long season and playoffs.
