The 32-year-old admits that Meralco’s warm welcome helped him settle in quickly. Mitchell was a key figure in Meralco’s 81-80 come-back win over South Korea’s Busan KCC Egis in the East Asian Super League (EASL) homeaway second season at the Philsports Arena on Wednesday night.
Mitchell was dominant in his debut, scoring a game-high 33 points and grabbing 22 rebounds. The performance also gives Meralco a good start on its journey to the upcoming PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“Thank you very much to the team for giving me this opportunity and for accepting me like family, it means a lot to me,” said the dual US and Panamanian citizen. I’ve been to many countries, but I’ve only been here for a few days and already I feel like I’m part of the team. It’s a very special feeling.”
Meralco coach Luigi Trillo was full of praise for Mitchell’s debut and expects him to play even better once he is fully integrated into the team.
