[Saba Sports News] The Golden State Warriors appear ready to move past the sting of the 2023 postseason with a major roster upgrade.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Saturday that the Warriors are in “serious pursuit” of Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder.
Veteran NBA reporter Marc Stein further revealed that the trade is “imminent,” with De’Anthony Melton heading to Brooklyn as part of the deal. The trade is expected to be finalized once both players become eligible for movement on Sunday.
In addition to Melton, the Nets will receive three future second-round picks.
Schroder, 31, is a proven reserve guard and was the runner-up for the Sixth Man of the Year Award in 2019-20 with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He also had two impactful stints with the Los Angeles Lakers, including key moments off the bench during their elimination of Golden State in the 2023 playoffs.
This season, Schroder has been starting for a depleted Nets roster, putting up impressive numbers: 18.4 points and 6.6 assists per game while shooting 38.7% from three. However, Brooklyn is cashing in on his value, gaining future assets and Melton, who is out for the season with an ACL injury but is on an expiring contract. Rumors suggest the Nets may not be done dealing, with additional players reportedly on the trading block.
For the Warriors, currently 14-10 and fifth in the West, Schroder provides a strong backup for Steph Curry at a minimal cost. This move could also be a prelude to a bigger splash, as Golden State has been linked to potential trades for marquee All-Star players.
