[Saba Sports News] The Philadelphia 76ers’ struggles continue to mount.
On Saturday, the team announced that rookie guard Jared McCain has suffered a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee, requiring surgery. McCain sustained the injury during Friday’s loss to the Indiana Pacers and is now sidelined indefinitely.
The 20-year-old McCain, selected 16th overall in this year’s draft, has been a standout in his rookie season. With impressive scoring and playmaking, he has consistently stepped up whenever the 76ers’ Big Three—Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George—were sidelined. McCain’s season averages of 15.3 points and 2.6 assists per game on efficient 46/38/88 shooting splits had him in the conversation for Rookie of the Year.
However, McCain’s injury is a significant blow to the 76ers, who are already reeling. Sitting at 7-16 (12th in the East), the team also saw Embiid sustain an injury in Friday’s game, compounding their challenges. McCain’s absence marks yet another hurdle in what has been a brutal start to the season for Philadelphia.
