[Saba Sports News] The Golden State Warriors have been in a rough patch over the past month, and they sought to tackle their challenges with a players-only meeting ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk, Stephen Curry and several teammates organized the meeting on Christmas Day. Curry then delivered a standout performance, scoring 38 points in the Warriors’ narrow 115-113 loss to the Lakers at Chase Center in San Francisco.
Although the game didn’t end in their favor, Curry explained why the meeting was necessary.
“It is an inflection point on obviously which direction our season can go,” Curry said. “Our last 14 games, it’s just been tough trying to find any type of momentum or consistency, and through that, you just can’t lose spirit and belief that we’re a good enough team to figure it out because this league is ruthless.”
The Warriors, who started the season strong with a 12-3 record, have now lost 11 of their last 14 games. Curry emphasized the importance of regaining momentum before the All-Star break and acknowledged the difficulty of turning things around during a slump.
Curry showcased his determination, scoring 17 of his 38 points in the fourth quarter. Despite trailing 104-94 with just over three minutes left, the Warriors rallied to tie the game, only for Austin Reaves to seal the Lakers’ victory with a clutch layup in the final 1.7 seconds.
“I still have hope and faith and confidence that we can figure it out,” Curry added. “It’s how I’m built. You talk about it, but it’s all about execution, showing up every night, and the effort we’re giving. Even with our recent record, we’re a team that’s desperate to figure it out.”
The Warriors, now 15-14, will need to maintain focus to climb back up the standings. While the meeting may not have resulted in an immediate turnaround, it reflects the team’s commitment to addressing their struggles and finding a way forward.
