[Saba Sports News] After the conclusion of the 2024 F1 season, the team order incident involving McLaren during the Hungarian Grand Prix has once again become a hot topic in the media. During this year’s F1 Hungarian Grand Prix, due to a mismanagement of pit stop timing, Lando Norris overtook his teammate Oscar Piastri during a pit stop. The team then instructed Norris to return the lead to his teammate. Although Norris was trying to catch Max Verstappen at the time, he generously relinquished the lead before the finish line, allowing Piastri to secure his first career victory, costing Norris seven driver points. In hindsight, if Norris hadn’t given way to his teammate, he could have prolonged the championship suspense, even having a chance to turn the tables. Jos Verstappen, Max Verstappen’s father, stated in an interview that McLaren must be regretting this team order and asserted that if the situation had been reversed with Verstappen, his son would not have given way to a teammate.
