[Saba Sports News] Sacramento Kings’ head coach Mike Brown was ejected from the game against the Milwaukee Bucks, and later used an innovative approach to explain his actions in the postgame press conference.
During the fourth quarter, Kings guard Malik Monk restrained Brown as he confronted referee Intae Hwang, a rookie official. Hwang issued two technical fouls to Brown, resulting in his ejection from the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Postgame, Brown was prepared to discuss his ejection, bringing a laptop to show reporters the incidents that triggered his frustration. The 53-year-old coach highlighted a perceived double standard favoring the Bucks in the 143-142 loss to the Kings. He showcased a play where Kings star De’Aaron Fox was penalized for a foul on Bucks guard Damian Lillard, which Brown argued was merely incidental contact.
Brown also contrasted this with a play where Fox didn’t receive similar consideration when he was impeded by a defender’s arm. “Referees are human and they’re going to make mistakes. But in terms of consistency, you saw it right here,” Brown remarked, indicating his laptop.
He further noted the Kings’ significant free throw disparity at halftime, with the Bucks ultimately attempting and converting 12 more free throws than the Kings in a one-point victory.
Brown’s approach might set a trend in postgame press conferences, with coaches using screens to highlight officiating concerns. Toronto Raptors head coach Darko Rajaković, who recently criticized referees in a more traditional manner, might take note of this new strategy.
