[Saba Sports News] India’s Captain Rohit Sharma achieved a milestone after the second T20I against Afghanistan on January 14, tying with the legendary MS Dhoni as the most successful Indian captain in T20Is. This was Rohit’s 41st win in the format, achieved in his 53rd match as captain, equalling Dhoni’s record of 41 wins from 72 matches.
Rohit’s captaincy debut in T20Is came during a series against Sri Lanka in 2017, where he quickly made a mark by scoring the then-fastest T20I century in only his second game as captain. He continued his successful leadership in the T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in March 2018.
Despite the setback of a ten-wicket loss to England in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final, Rohit is expected to lead India in the next T20 World Cup in 2024, to be held in the West Indies and USA.
Rohit also recently became the first male cricketer to play 150 T20Is, although he was dismissed for a duck in his second game against Afghanistan. He is the second-highest run-scorer in T20Is, with 3853 runs at an average of 30.82 and a strike rate of 139.09, including four centuries and 29 fifties.
Notably, Rohit has participated in every edition of the T20 World Cup since his debut in the inaugural tournament in 2007. As the Indian team prepares for their next match on January 17 in Bengaluru, Rohit will be looking to lead a series whitewash against Afghanistan.
