[Saba Sports News] At the end of last year, former F1 driver Kevin Magnussen announced he signed with BMW’s motorsport division. This weekend, he will represent BMW at the Daytona 24-Hour endurance race. This year, he will also participate in the Le Mans 24-Hour race and compete in the WEC series throughout the year. Magnussen told sportscar365.com that he has been preparing for this for several years and will drive BMW’s No. 24 car with the goal of trying to win some major race championships. He noted that it is a golden era for sports cars and he looks forward to being a part of it. He expressed that he does not wish to remain in F1 and did not actively seek another F1 contract last year. Magnussen has now shifted his focus to sports car racing and believes this transition is “permanent.” Some fans pointed out that Magnussen’s technical skills are average and he is not suitable for continued competition in F1. For example, last season, he received a full 12 points penalty on his super license, making him the first driver in F1 history to be banned due to reaching the maximum penalty points.
