[Saba Sports News] A college basketball fan thought he had secured a $10,000 prize—only to have it snatched away over a technicality.
During halftime of the UMass women’s basketball game against St. Bonaventure on Wednesday, a fan named Noah was selected for a shooting challenge at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass.
From the start, it was clear Noah knew what he was doing. He nailed a layup, smoothly sank his free throw, and drained a three-pointer with ease.
By the time he stepped up for the halfcourt shot, the contest organizers had to be sweating. With confidence, Noah went behind his back, launched the shot—and swished it.
It looked like he had just won $10,000. But there was one problem: his foot was slightly on the halfcourt line when he took the shot. Because of that, the contest’s insurance provider, OddsOn Promotions, refused to pay out the full prize.
To soften the blow, UMass tried to make it up to Noah with a consolation package: four suite tickets to a UMass men’s game, two courtside seats for a UMass women’s game, $100 in concession stand gift cards, and a bag of UMass swag.
Not quite the same as $10,000, but at least they tried.
