[Saba Sports News] One of the biggest NBA trade deadline acquisitions might not see the court anytime soon.
On Wednesday, the Toronto Raptors officially introduced Brandon Ingram, but head coach Darko Rajaković cast doubt on his availability for the remainder of the season.
According to reports, Rajaković admitted he’s “not even sure” if Ingram will suit up for the Raptors this year, emphasizing that their focus is on getting him fully ready for the 2025-26 season.
The 27-year-old All-Star, acquired in a multi-player deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, hasn’t played in over two months due to an ankle injury. While Toronto plans to re-evaluate Ingram every two weeks, with only about eight weeks left in the regular season, time is running out for a return.
With the Raptors sitting at 17-37 (13th in the East), they have little to play for, making a cautious approach logical. However, considering the lucrative multi-year extension Ingram signed after the trade, it’s concerning that his first season with Toronto could be a lost year.
If the Raptors prioritize long-term success, shutting Ingram down may be the best move. But with his contract set to expire in 2027, losing a full season so soon after acquiring him isn’t ideal.
