[Saba Sports News] Carmelo Anthony is set to become a key figure in NBA coverage next season with his new media role.
According to a source, Anthony is joining NBC as a top studio analyst for its basketball coverage, making him the network’s first hire for its NBA studio crew.
This marks Anthony’s first major post-retirement gig since stepping away from the NBA after the 2022-23 season.
The future Hall of Famer brings instant credibility to the role, ranking in the top ten for all-time NBA scoring and boasting a 19-year career that included ten All-Star selections.
While he played for six teams, he’s best remembered for his stints with the Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks.
Anthony was reportedly a coveted target for multiple networks amid the ongoing NBA media rights shuffle, but NBC ultimately secured him. The rest of NBC’s studio team is still being assembled, with Football Night in America host Maria Taylor among those being considered for a lead role.
NBC is reclaiming NBA broadcasting rights for the first time since 2002, taking over from TNT.
As part of the transition, the network has been pursuing top talent from Turner Sports. However, while NBC is building a studio show from scratch, TNT’s beloved *Inside the NBA* crew will reportedly continue on ESPN.
