[Saba Sports News] Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood expressed his desire for him and his fellow Australian bowlers – Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, and Pat Cummins – to continue excelling in Test cricket. He acknowledged the growing popularity of franchise cricket leagues worldwide but emphasized the enduring appeal of Test cricket. Hazlewood drew inspiration from England’s James Anderson, who remains active in Test cricket at 41, hoping he and his teammates can extend their red-ball careers for at least two more years.
Referencing Anderson’s longevity, Hazlewood highlighted the unique styles of Starc and Cummins and expressed a collective goal for each to achieve 300 Test wickets. “It’d be great if we could play forever, but a couple more years would be fantastic, given what we understand about training and workload management nowadays. We all really enjoy Test cricket and want to continue as long as possible,” Hazlewood mentioned in an interview.
Hazlewood also reflected on the challenge of reaching personal milestones due to injuries, noting that advancing from 200 to 250 wickets has been a slow process. He commented on captain Pat Cummins quickly surpassing him in wicket tally. “The last 50 wickets have taken some time. I reached 200 a while back, but injuries in recent years have been a setback. It will be quite special for the last among us four to achieve it. Cummins has rapidly caught up, overtaking me with his recent performances,” Hazlewood added.
