[Saba Sports News] On the evening of February 19, Japanese men’s singles player Yushi Tanaka announced through his personal social media account that he got married to his wife on February 5 of this year. In addition to posting a selfie with his partner, Tanaka shared a picture of their wedding ring and the marriage registration form. It is reported that the date of their marriage certificate, February 5, was just a week before the recently concluded Asian Mixed Team Championships. During this tournament, Tanaka was part of the Japanese team and competed in the semifinals against the Chinese team. In that match, he fought hard against the young Chinese player Hu Zhean, who lost the first game but came back to win, leading Japan to a third-place finish after being eliminated in the semifinals. Tanaka, born in 1999, is no longer considered a young player. He shares the same physical attributes as most Japanese players, standing at only 170 cm, and is relatively unknown compared to contemporaries like Watanabe Koki and Obayashi Takuma. It wasn’t until 2021, when the 22-year-old Tanaka unexpectedly defeated Naraoka Kodai to win the All Japan Badminton Championships, that he gained fame. Perhaps in the future, Tanaka’s ranking will continue to rise as he appears in various high-level competitions.
