[Saba Sports News] Recently, former New Zealand cricketer Mitchell McClenaghan was appointed as the new bowling coach for the ILT20 team MI Emirates. This marks McClenaghan’s first significant coaching role, following a successful playing career that included four IPL championships with Mumbai Indians.
He joins a coaching team led by Robin Singh, the head coach of MI Emirates. Singh takes over from former New Zealander Shane Bond, who is currently committed to the Paarl Royals in the SA20. The coaching staff also includes former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja as the batting coach, with Vinay Kumar continuing as the assistant coach and James Franklin as the fielding coach from the inaugural ILT20 season.
MI Emirates is gearing up for the next ILT20 season, starting on January 19, with high expectations following a near miss in the last season. They narrowly failed to reach the final, being ousted in Qualifier 2 by the eventual champions, Gulf Giants.
The team, led by West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran, will begin their campaign against the Dubai Capitals on January 20 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Pooran joins MI Emirates after a stint with Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20, bringing leadership experience and talent to the squad.
