[Saba Sports News] Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis spoke out on Monday about the illness that has sidelined him for the past few weeks.
Porzingis has missed the last six games due to what the team has described as a “non-COVID illness.” Despite being listed as “day-to-day” since his last appearance on Feb. 26, he has already been out for two full weeks.
Providing an update on his official X account, the former All-Star revealed that he has been dealing with a viral illness that remains unidentified but reassured fans that he is making progress.
“I have been dealing with some viral illness that we haven’t been able to fully identify yet,” Porzingis wrote. “I am recovering and getting better. But still working my way back to full strength to help this team. Thanks for support and Im hoping for a healthy return soon.”
Fortunately for Boston, Porzingis’ absence hasn’t slowed them down, as the team has gone 5-1 without him and boasts a 27-6 record in games he has missed this season.
The time off may actually work in the Celtics’ favor. With Boston essentially locked into the second seed in the East, there isn’t much at stake in the regular season’s final stretch. If Porzingis makes a full recovery, his extended rest could help keep him fresh for the playoffs.
Porzingis previously missed the first month of the year while recovering from offseason ankle surgery. In 32 games this season, he has averaged 18.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks while shooting 47.4% from the field and a career-best 40.3% from three-point range.
