[Saba Sports News] Malaysian bronze medalist Lee Zii Jia, who competed in men’s singles at the Paris Olympics, played through an injury in the first round of the All England Badminton Super 1000 tournament. After a tough three-game battle, he lost 1-2 to Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus. Besides the disappointment of exiting in the first round, he suffered another injury setback and has confirmed his withdrawal from the Swiss Badminton Open next week. After the match, the 26-year-old Lee revealed that he had twisted his previously injured right ankle before reaching 11 points in the first game and briefly considered withdrawing but ultimately decided to continue playing through the pain. Previously, Lee had suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle during the group stages of the BWF World Tour Finals in December last year, causing him to miss several tournaments in January, including the Malaysia Super 1000, India Super 750, and Indonesia Super 500. In the Orleans Badminton Super 300 tournament last week, Lee made his comeback for the new season, believing he was ready for this European event, but he realized it was still too soon. Lee hopes to fully recover from his injuries before competing again in good health.
