[Saba Sports News] The Sacramento Kings may soon have a disgruntled star on their hands.
Entering Friday with a 36-37 record, the Kings have struggled to find consistency this season, hovering around .500 and looking likely to land in one of the bottom two play-in spots. There’s even a chance they miss the playoffs altogether.
After swinging big moves in the offseason—signing DeMar DeRozan and trading longtime point guard De’Aaron Fox for Zach LaVine—the results have been mixed at best. According to sources, Sacramento is expected to be “big sellers” ahead of the 2026 trade deadline.
While the Kings reportedly plan to “run it back” this offseason, their window to convince Domantas Sabonis of a long-term vision may be closing. Siegel reports that if the team doesn’t show clear progress next season, the 3-time All-Star is “likely” to request a trade.
Sabonis has been a bright spot in an otherwise underwhelming year. Now in his fourth season with the Kings, he’s putting up 19.0 points, 14.0 rebounds (an NBA-best), and 6.0 assists per game while shooting nearly 60% from the field and close to 40% from beyond the arc—playing a poor man’s Nikola Jokic-style role as a facilitating big.
Despite his defensive shortcomings, Sabonis would no doubt attract strong interest from teams looking for a skilled, playmaking center—especially if Sacramento’s situation continues to spiral.
