[Saba Sports News] A wild fight broke out between the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, with tensions boiling over and the scuffle spilling into the crowd during the second quarter at Target Center in Minneapolis.
The first 16 minutes of the game were already chippy, featuring hard fouls and heated exchanges. Pistons center Isaiah Stewart had drawn a technical for shoving Rudy Gobert, and things only escalated from there.
With 8:36 left in the second quarter, Minnesota’s Naz Reid and Donte DiVincenzo reacted to a hard foul from Detroit rookie Ron Holland.
DiVincenzo and Holland began shoving near the baseline, and the altercation quickly spilled into the front rows. While the situation didn’t fully escalate into chaos, it was a tense and chaotic scene for several moments, especially with fans nearby.
Coaches from both teams got involved in the aftermath, with more pushing and shouting as officials and players tried to restore order.
When the dust settled, multiple ejections were handed out: Reid and DiVincenzo for the Timberwolves, along with assistant coach Pablo Prigioni; and for the Pistons, Stewart, Holland, Marcus Sasser, and head coach JB Bickerstaff were all tossed.
Fines and suspensions are likely coming, especially given the league’s strict stance on anything that spills into the stands. Stewart, in particular, may face harsher consequences given his past run-ins with the league.
