[Saba Sports News] Mercedes‘s technical team is launching a targeted technical upgrade to challenge McLaren, with Engineering Director Andrew Shovlin confirming that the W16 will receive its first performance upgrade of the season, aiming directly at the currently dominant MCL39. During an internal debrief after the Chinese Grand Prix, Shovlin stated that McLaren might currently be the strongest opponent on the grid. Data shows that although Mercedes is second in the constructors’ standings, their lap time deficit to McLaren is a staggering 0.3 seconds. What particularly keeps the engineers up at night is the MCL39’s terrifying stability in tire management and high-speed corners. Reportedly, Mercedes’ upgrade will focus on addressing the W16’s core weakness—insufficient traction in slow corners. Inspired by McLaren’s success, the technical team has redesigned the rear suspension geometry and optimized the front edge of the floor. Some fans speculate that if the W16 can prove itself at Suzuka, a notoriously challenging traditional circuit, it could not only reignite the team’s championship ambitions but also disrupt McLaren’s leading momentum.
