[Saba Sports News] The Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves delivered what might have been the game of the year on Tuesday night at Ball Arena.
In a double-overtime thriller packed with drama, the Timberwolves edged out the Nuggets 140-139 in a wild showdown that felt more like a blockbuster movie than a regular season game.
Denver looked to be in control, holding a double-digit lead midway through the fourth quarter. But Anthony Edwards ignited a furious Minnesota rally, scoring 13 points in the final period to force overtime.
Edwards also drilled back-to-back threes in the closing minutes of regulation that nearly sealed it for the Wolves.
The Timberwolves managed to withstand a historic performance from Nikola Jokic, who dropped 61 points on 18-of-29 shooting, along with 11 rebounds and 10 assists—marking the highest single-game point total in the NBA this season. J
okic either scored or assisted on all eight of Denver’s made field goals in the two overtimes, but his brilliance wasn’t enough.
Fans from both sides—and plenty of neutral observers—were united in one thought: these two teams need to meet again in the playoffs.
Their Western Conference semifinal clash in 2024 was already considered one of the best series of that postseason, going the full seven games before Minnesota claimed Game 7. Since then, the Timberwolves have kept the momentum, carrying a five-game win streak over Denver into Tuesday—and now extending it to six.
The win came in dramatic fashion after Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook was called for a crucial last-second shooting foul on Nickeil Alexander-Walker’s corner three. Alexander-Walker hit two of three free throws to secure the one-point win for Minnesota.
Playoff preview? Fans certainly hope so.
