[Saba Sports News] The Phoenix Suns made a major move on Monday by firing head coach Mike Budenholzer, and it appears Kevin Durant could be the next big name out the door.
Budenholzer was let go after just one season, with the Suns missing the playoffs despite having the NBA’s highest payroll.
One key reason behind the firing was reportedly his inability to mesh with Devin Booker, which caused broader chemistry issues within the roster. Budenholzer also clashed with Durant during games, prompting speculation that the firing was partly to keep the 15-time All-Star happy.
However, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Suns are open to trading Durant this offseason. Multiple teams are expected to pursue him, and Phoenix is willing to work with Durant and his representatives to find a mutually beneficial landing spot.
The Suns remain fully committed to Booker, who is eight years younger than the 36-year-old Durant. Meanwhile, Bradley Beal’s full no-trade clause makes him a less likely trade piece. Durant, who averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists this season, remains highly valuable—but his reported desire for a two-year, $120 million extension could complicate any deal.
The Suns had already fielded trade interest in Durant at the February deadline, though their asking price was steep. Now, with one Western Conference contender emerging as an early favorite, a blockbuster move could be on the horizon.
