[Saba Sports News] Recently, the Italian Olympic Committee announced that legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has been inducted into the Italian Sports Walk of Fame, making him the 11th football player to be included. The Italian Sports Walk of Fame is a path from the headquarters of the Italian Olympic Committee to the Olympic Stadium, engraved with the names of those who have made outstanding contributions to various sports in Italy. Buffon has represented the Italian national team 176 times and won the 2006 World Cup. The Italian Olympic Committee stated that Buffon was selected because of his contribution to the Italian men’s national team’s 2006 World Cup victory. Regarding this, Buffon said, “This really satisfies me a lot, and it is also an important responsibility. I never thought I would get here because I have always enjoyed football, not just treating it as a job. I am happy to find my name among so many champions, some of whom are my friends, as well as so many superhumans from other sports. Winning the World Cup undoubtedly helped me enter people’s minds and be remembered through this commemorative plaque.”
