[Saba Sports News] Jimmy Butler had Golden State Warriors fans buzzing on Tuesday—both with his play and his postgame words.
In the Warriors’ play-in tournament showdown against the Memphis Grizzlies at Chase Center, Butler flipped the switch into playoff mode. The six-time All-Star exploded for 21 points in the first half, helping Golden State build a commanding lead. In the second half, Steph Curry took over, scoring the team’s final 10 points to secure a 121-116 victory.
After the game, Butler delivered a headline-worthy quote, likening his partnership with Curry to the iconic Batman and Robin duo. Having been the lead guy in Miami, Butler had no problem stepping into the sidekick role alongside Curry.
“I think any team has a chance when I’m on the team,” Butler said. “But I know every team has a chance when Steph’s on the team. So, I get to play Robin. That’s my Batman. … We’ve got all the villains over there—Two-Face, Joker, Riddler—everybody else in the Western Conference. But we’ve got a lot of games to win.”
Judging by Tuesday’s performance, the Warriors might just have a pair of Batmans. Butler led all scorers with 38 points on 12-of-20 shooting, while Curry added 37 points and six triples.
The win locks Golden State into the No. 7 seed in the West, setting up a first-round showdown with the Houston Rockets. And with Butler and Curry leading the way, the Warriors may just have the upper hand—regardless of seeding.
