[Saba Sports News] ABC’s broadcast team might want to double-check their Memphis Grizzlies roster.
During Sunday’s Game 1 blowout between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Memphis Grizzlies, ABC aired the Thunder’s 131-80 demolition of their first-round opponent.
With the Thunder up 68-36 at halftime and the outcome essentially decided, announcers Dave Pasch and Tim Legler had plenty of time to fill.
Late in the third quarter, with the score at 101-53, Legler began discussing injured Grizzlies rookie Jaylen Wells.
As he spoke, the broadcast cut to a player sitting on the Memphis bench—except it wasn’t Wells. The player shown was actually fellow Grizzlies rookie Zyon Pullin.
Wells responded to the on-air blunder by reposting the clip on social media, simply captioned with an ellipsis—clearly aware of the mix-up.
Wells has been sidelined since suffering a serious injury on April 7 that left him with a broken wrist, a concussion, and a facial laceration. Before his injury, the Washington State product had started 74 games for the Grizzlies, averaging 10.4 points and 3.4 assists while contributing solid defense.
Although Memphis surely missed Wells in the Game 1 rout, even his presence likely wouldn’t have altered the outcome of what turned out to be a historic dismantling by the Thunder.
