[Saba Sports News] Recently, Hans-Joachim Watzke, CEO of Borussia Dortmund, confirmed in an appearance on Germany’s ARD’s program Aktuellen Sportstudio that club advisor Matthias Sommer will no longer commentate on Borussia Dortmund matches in his capacity as an expert analyst. Sommer currently serves as a UEFA Champions League analyst for Amazon Prime Video and severely criticized the team following their 1-2 loss to Bologna this season. He bluntly stated that the team was “not in shape physically or mentally.” His comments sparked widespread controversy, especially regarding whether his role as a club advisor made such criticism appropriate. Subsequently, the Dortmund hierarchy requested he stop analyzing Dortmund matches or risk termination of his advisory contract. Watzke stated that they discussed the matter and reached a decision: “Sommer will no longer commentate on matches involving Borussia Dortmund.” Regarding his criticism, Watzke noted Sommer was “angry” at the time, and such incidents will not happen again in the future.
