[Saba Sports News] Indonesian badminton star Jonatan Christie recently spoke to the media about the BWF’s recent reform of the scoring system. He openly criticized it, saying, “The real issue that needs to be addressed is the overly dense tournament schedule, not the format of the matches.” According to current BWF regulations, top players must participate in all four Super 1000 tournaments, six Super 750 events, and up to two Super 500 tournaments, totaling 12 high-intensity events. The new rules stipulate a 15-point system with an upper limit of 21 points, requiring a two-point lead after 14-all, leading to more intense endgame battles. Athletes need to frequently enter high-intensity confrontations, which may increase the instantaneous load on muscles and joints and raise the probability of injuries. The editor believes that the current 21-point system allows players to have more tactical adjustment time, while the 15-point system compresses players’ strategic space, possibly simplifying the tactical system and weakening the depth of technical confrontation, reducing the exciting rallies and affecting the entertainment value of the matches.
