[Saba Sports News] The Ranji Trophy 2024 Group B match between Mumbai and Bihar at Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, Patna, has been in the news for non-cricket reasons. A widely shared social media video reveals the stadium’s poor condition a day before the game, with Mumbai’s team practicing amidst dilapidated stands offering limited seating for spectators.
Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, which has hosted nine international matches, last featured a significant event with a women’s ODI between India and South Africa in December 1997. The lack of major games since then has led to the stadium’s deterioration, now exposed to the public.
In the match, Mumbai, led by Shams Mulani, chose to bat first after winning the toss. The team faced an early setback, losing opener Jay Bista when the score was just five. Bhupen Lalwani and Suved Parkar later formed a 91-run partnership, with Lalwani scoring 65 before being dismissed by Sakibul Gani. Gani also took out Sarafaraz Khan, putting Mumbai at a disadvantage.
Suved Parkar scored a resilient half-century, but Bihar’s Veer Pratap Singh’s bowling prowess caused trouble for Mumbai, leaving them at 137/6. Shivam Dube and Tanus Kotian’s efforts took Mumbai to 235/9 by the end of Day 1, with Singh taking 4/32 and Gani securing 2/60.
