[Saba Sports News] Jalen Brunson showed a great deal of respect for Jayson Tatum following the Boston Celtics star’s injury during Monday night’s playoff battle.
Brunson led the New York Knicks to a 121-113 win over the Celtics in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series, giving New York a commanding 3-1 lead. He delivered several clutch shots in the fourth quarter to close out the victory at Madison Square Garden.
Late in the game, Tatum went down with a non-contact injury to his right leg, appearing to be in significant pain. The nature of the fall sparked fears of a possible Achilles tear, casting a shadow over the end of the contest.
During his postgame press conference, Brunson paused before taking questions to offer a heartfelt message to Tatum.
“Sorry, real quick, sorry. Prayers out to JT, man,” Brunson said. “I just wanted to make that [the priority] and say that, first and foremost. Thoughts and prayers for him. Just praying for the best.”
Though they had battled fiercely on the court — with Tatum scoring a game-high 42 points and Brunson putting up 39 — Brunson made it clear that respect and sportsmanship come first.
