[Saba Sports News] Jimmy Butler’s debut season with the Golden State Warriors didn’t end in a deep playoff run, but he’s made it clear he has no regrets about joining the team.
Butler, who was traded to Golden State in early February, helped the Warriors secure the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference.
They edged out the Houston Rockets in a hard-fought seven-game first-round series but were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games in the conference semifinals.
Speaking to reporters the day after the Warriors’ season ended, Butler expressed nothing but satisfaction with his situation in Golden State. He even embraced his supporting role behind Steph Curry.
“To come here and know I’m second to Steph is a really good thing,” Butler said. “To be his sidekick, it’s really refreshing.”
Butler’s comments are especially notable given his history of clashing with teams when things don’t go his way. Known for pushing his way out of past situations, Butler now sounds at peace — a promising sign for a franchise that took a gamble by trading for the veteran star.
The 35-year-old still has nearly $111 million remaining on his contract over the next two seasons. If his fit with the Warriors holds, Butler could be a key piece in helping them remain contenders in the West next year.
