[Saba Sports News] The WNBA is investigating allegations that fans directed racist remarks toward Angel Reese during Saturday’s game between the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever.
In a statement, the league confirmed it is reviewing an unspecified incident that occurred during the game in Indianapolis. While details remain limited, the WNBA emphasized its stance against discrimination.
“The WNBA strongly condemns racism, hate, and discrimination in all forms — they have no place in our league or in society,” the statement read. “We are aware of the allegations and are looking into the matter.”
According to Doug Feinberg of the Associated Press, a source said the investigation centers on alleged racial comments made by fans toward Reese during the game.
The WNBA Players Association also released a statement referring to “reports of hateful comments” and expressed support for the league’s investigation.
Reese was involved in a brief on-court confrontation with Indiana’s Caitlin Clark during the Fever’s dominant 93-58 win. It’s unclear when the alleged remarks were made or if they were related to that incident.
Tensions between the Sky and Fever have been rising, fueled in part by the budding rivalry between Reese and Clark. The two teams are set to meet four more times this season.
