[Saba Sports News] The Boston Celtics have shed more light on the mysterious illness that affected Kristaps Porzingis over the past two months.
Following the team’s playoff exit, Celtics president Brad Stevens addressed the media on Monday and revealed that Porzingis had been dealing with “post-viral syndrome.” Stevens noted that the demands of playoff basketball likely hampered the forward’s recovery process.
Stevens added that Porzingis is expected to fully recover in the coming weeks and should be ready to compete without issue by the time EuroBasket begins in late August.
Porzingis missed eight games in March due to the illness, and lingering effects reportedly continued into the postseason. That may help explain his inconsistent playoff performance — he averaged just 7.7 points in 20.9 minutes per game.
His limited impact raised questions about how much healthier he needed to be for the Celtics to make a deeper run.
