[Saba Sports News] Jimmy Butler’s agent, Bernie Lee, is no stranger to defending his client — and this time, he’s taking aim at a franchise legend.
After Dwyane Wade criticized the Golden State Warriors forward, Lee fired back on X (formerly Twitter) with some strong words for Butler’s former teammate.
In a pair of posts, Lee wrote:
“Man’s podcast can kick rocks haha. Let’s be clear, the playoffs for him started in February.
- Took a team that was 11th and got them to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
- That Finals team, that’s just kind of off-handedly mentioned here… had nine undrafted players on it.”
Lee’s rebuttal appears to be aimed at reminding people of Butler’s incredible run with the Miami Heat — including two trips to the NBA Finals (2020, 2023), both without a true superstar co-star.
Now with Golden State, Butler is playing alongside Stephen Curry, arguably the most talented teammate he’s ever had.
While Wade’s comments weren’t necessarily malicious, the tone rubbed some people the wrong way — especially given Butler’s impact wherever he’s played. The Heat, for instance, took a noticeable step back after Butler was traded.
Lee wasn’t done. He added another post to underscore Butler’s playoff impact, “There is a reason that in 6 of the last 7 years the team that beats him in the playoffs wins the chip, and it is because they are pretty good.”
Butler may not have a championship ring, but his on-court impact is undeniable. Every team he’s been on has improved with him — and struggled without him.
As for the Warriors, they’ve shown flashes of promise this season. If Butler helps them put it all together for a full year, the criticisms — and comparisons — may fade away.
