[Saba Sports News] Chet Holmgren is clearly savoring the moment after reaching the NBA Finals.
Holmgren and the Oklahoma City Thunder secured their spot on Wednesday night with a dominant 124-94 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals. The 7-footer delivered a strong performance, scoring 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
After the game, Holmgren took a subtle — and very petty — shot at Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards via his Instagram Story. The jab was a callback to a regular season meeting in February, when Edwards threw down a vicious dunk over Holmgren and followed it up with some locker room trash talk, saying in a now-viral clip, “Shoutout to Chet, welcome home baby.”
In the wake of Wednesday’s win, Holmgren reposted that same video of Edwards, effectively turning the insult back on him now that OKC has eliminated Minnesota from the playoffs.
It was a petty move from the 23-year-old big man, especially months after the original slight — but with the Thunder advancing and Holmgren averaging 18.0 points on 56.7% shooting for the series while anchoring OKC’s defense, he’s certainly earned the right to talk a little trash. Holmgren is also gaining a reputation for his sharp social media shade, having previously taken subtle digs at fellow young star Victor Wembanyama.
