[Saba Sports News] Charles Barkley is once again showing zero faith in Spike Lee’s beloved New York Knicks.
The iconic director and lifelong Knicks superfan joined TNT’s Inside the NBA crew ahead of Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Knicks and Indiana Pacers.
About an hour before tipoff at Madison Square Garden, Lee passionately discussed his devotion to the team, even saying he’d trade one of his Academy Awards if it meant the Knicks could finally win a championship.
Barkley didn’t miss a beat. “Well, you’re gonna keep ’em,” he quipped, firing off a ruthless response.
Lee, 68, won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for BlacKkKlansman in 2019 and also received an Honorary Academy Award in 2016. Barkley, however, made it clear he doesn’t think either award is in jeopardy of being traded any time soon.
The Knicks are in the conference finals for the first time since 2000 but haven’t reached the NBA Finals since 1999 or won a title since 1973 — when Lee was just 16. While it’s still technically possible for New York to win it all, they face a steep uphill battle trailing the Pacers 3-1 in the series.
As usual, Barkley didn’t hold back — and the Knicks once again found themselves on the receiving end of his sharp tongue.
