[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, if Leicester City is found guilty of violating Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), they could face at least a 12-point deduction penalty next season in the Championship. Leicester City is currently facing serious financial misconduct allegations, with the Premier League accusing them last week of PSR violations amounting to over £17 million in their 2021-2024 fiscal years. Since being charged after relegation to the Championship, the Independent Commission may apply EFL penalty guidelines: PSR violations carry a base deduction of 12 points, although EFL has a penalty reduction mechanism for minor offenses, Leicester City’s violation scale is too large to qualify for leniency. Additionally, Leicester City faces enhanced penalties for failing to submit accounts on time and for not cooperating with investigations. EFL’s penalty guidelines stem from multiple financial cases in 2018; Sheffield Wednesday was previously penalized 12 points (later reduced to 6 on appeal) for a £18 million offense, while penalties against Everton and Nottingham Forest last season in the Premier League were relatively mild. Currently, neither the Premier League nor Leicester City have commented on this matter, but the outcome will significantly impact Leicester City’s prospects in the Championship next season.
