[Saba Sports News] The Indiana Pacers were outclassed from the opening tip in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, suffering a 123–107 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
It was a flat performance on both ends, and while fans tried to process the defeat, Dwight Howard added some intrigue of his own.
The former No. 1 overall pick tweeted an edited image of himself wearing a Pacers jersey and a Superman cape—sending a not-so-subtle message. The timing said it all.
The Pacers looked overmatched, struggling to contain Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who dropped 34 points with ease. Alex Caruso added 20 off the bench, while Jalen Williams and Aaron Wiggins combined for 37. A 19–2 Thunder run in the second quarter blew the game wide open.
Indiana’s offense never found its rhythm. Tyrese Haliburton led with 17 points, but got little support. Myles Turner and Pascal Siakam added 15 and 16, respectively, but the Pacers lacked any real presence inside—especially on defense.
That’s exactly where Howard believes he fits in. While he didn’t add a caption to the post, the message was unmistakable: Indiana needs size, toughness, and an interior anchor—and he thinks he can still be that guy.
Though Howard hasn’t been on an NBA roster recently, and is already a Hall of Famer, he hasn’t officially retired. He’s stayed in shape and made it known he’s open to a comeback if the right opportunity arises.
His resume speaks for itself: eight-time All-Star, three-time Defensive Player of the Year, and a key part of the Lakers’ 2020 championship team. He built a career on defense, rebounding, and physicality—precisely what the Pacers lacked in Game 2.
Whether Indiana is seriously considering adding him remains to be seen. But there’s no denying Howard sees a need—and believes he can fill it.
Game 3 shifts to Indianapolis, where the Pacers will look to reset in front of their home fans. After a rough showing in Game 2, they need energy, edge, and a defensive anchor.
Howard, Superman cape and all, is ready if they call.
