Yonex US Open 2025 will be held from June 24 to 29 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, USA. The American Open is at the Super300 level, a mid-to-low tier event, with the champion earning only 7,000 ranking points and the total prize money being $240,000. Due to the unappealing nature of the tournament, many top players have chosen to skip it. However, there are still a few strong competitors listed among the participants.
In the men’s singles, top-seeded Chou Tien-Chen from Chinese Taipei will anchor the upper half of the draw. In his opening round, he will face Finland’s Kalle Koljonen. Given Chou’s overall strength, he should advance smoothly through his first two rounds. He is likely to meet fifth-seeded compatriot Su Li-Yang in the quarterfinals. Apart from Su, the upper half also includes India’s Ayush Shetty (fourth seed) and Priyanshu Rajawat (sixth seed), who are both formidable opponents for Chou. As the top seed, Chou has been in excellent form recently, reaching the finals of the Taipei Open and Indonesian Open, though unfortunately losing out on the titles both times.
In the bottom half, second-seeded Nishimoto Kenta will face Germany’s Matthias Kicklitz in his opening match. There is a clear gap in their strengths, so Nishimoto should easily progress. His draw at this US Open is quite favorable as his first two opponents are relatively weak. In the quarterfinals, he is expected to encounter seventh-seeded Ho Hui Justin from Malaysia. Additionally, the biggest challenge for Nishimoto in this half is third-seeded Canadian Brian Yang. They might meet in the quarterfinals. The two have faced each other five times before, with Nishimoto leading 4-1. Their most recent encounter was at the Paris Olympics group stage, where Nishimoto won 2-0 against Yang.
Even though the US Open lacks star appeal, it does not dampen the enthusiasm of the participants. From the perspective of the players, the lack of top-tier competitors increases their chances of winning. For Chou Tien-Chen, this could be his best chance to win a title recently. At the same time, Nishimoto, Yang, and Su could potentially take the crown from Chou. Let’s wait and see who ultimately prevails!
