[Saba Sports News] According to online media SCOOP, Malaysian badminton player Ng Tze Yong will undergo ACL surgery in Europe, possibly in Germany or Spain, which is reportedly his personal wish. During the Malaysia Open Super 500 tournament last month, 25-year-old Ng Tze Yong injured his right knee in the second set of his first round match against Hong Kong player Ng Ka Long Angus. Subsequently, the Malaysian Badminton Association confirmed that Yong had suffered a right knee ACL injury and would need knee surgery. Head coach of the national badminton team’s singles division Kenneth Jonassen stated that after Yong’s surgery, he would likely need to rest for at least 9 to 12 months. Unfortunately, Yong had already applied for world ranking protection from the BWF last year, making it impossible for him to reapply now. According to regulations, each player can only make one application for world ranking protection every two years. This means that upon his return, Yong will start from lower-tier international challenge and series events due to his low world ranking, needing time to improve his ranking before returning to high-level competitions.
