[Saba Sports News] 25-year-old Ng Ka Long Angus withdrew from the first round of the Malaysia Masters in May this year due to an injury. Previously, he had just returned from a long-term back surgery, and now, just four matches into his comeback, he has faced another setback. After the match, the Malaysian Badminton Association confirmed that Ng Ka Long Angus suffered a right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and will need knee surgery. Yesterday, the online media outlet Scoop reported that the initial plan was for the orthopedic and sports surgeon at Sunway Medical Centre to treat the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games silver medalist. However, after evaluation by Ng’s team, it was ultimately decided to seek treatment in Germany. The estimated cost of the surgery abroad is around 40,000 Malaysian ringgit, with the National Sports Institute of Malaysia providing partial funding and assisting with logistics. According to Scoop, Ng Ka Long Angus wanted the best treatment and voluntarily requested the operation in Germany. Some sports medicine fans analyzed that the recovery period after an ACL surgery usually takes 9 months to a year, and in some cases even longer. Due to the International Badminton Federation’s rule that allows only one “protected ranking” application every two years, Ng Ka Long Angus will not be able to apply for a protected ranking this time.
