[Saba Sports News] Malaysian badminton legend Cheah Soon Kit recently revealed a major news during an interview with the media, announcing that he will take up a short-term coaching position in Europe, marking his return to coaching after seven years. However, he did not disclose the specific destination or details of the coaching assignment, only mentioning that it was after multiple invitations from the other party that he finally accepted the offer. “This is just a short-term coaching assignment, lasting about one and a half months.” Cheah Soon Kit was one of the key players in the Malaysian team that won the Thomas Cup in 1989. At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Cheah Soon Kit and Yew Chong Fook reached the men’s doubles final, winning a silver medal, one of the highlights of their career. After retiring, Cheah Soon Kit transitioned into coaching. He once served as the women’s doubles coach for the Malaysian national team. During his five-year tenure as the women’s doubles coach, Malaysia’s women’s doubles team achieved excellent results. In 2015, he was hired by the Malaysian Badminton Association as the men’s doubles coach, and in June 2017, he officially became the head coach of the men’s doubles.
