Kohli started 2023 on a high note, following his return to form in ODIs in late 2022. He kicked off the year with a spectacular 113 (87) against Sri Lanka in Guwahati, earning the Player of the Match award. His dominance continued with a masterful unbeaten 166 in the third ODI, securing him both Player of the Match and Series awards for his total 283 runs in the series.

Regaining his touch in ODIs, Kohli ended a 39-month Test century drought with a splendid 186 against Australia in Ahmedabad. He followed this with another century (121) against West Indies, adding to his 76 in the first Test of that series.

However, Kohli’s zenith came in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He warmed up with a century (122*) against Pakistan in the Asia Cup. Kohli capped off the year with a solid 76 (82) against South Africa in Centurion. He became the first player to surpass 2000 runs in a calendar year seven times, scoring 671 runs in 8 Test matches and 1377 runs in 24 ODI innings in 2023, showcasing his prowess as a chase master.
