[Saba Sports News] Pierluigi Collina, chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, expressed satisfaction with the innovations introduced in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. These include referees wearing mini cameras, an improved semi-automated offside detection system, and an 8-second rule to prevent goalkeepers from delaying play. The first edition featuring 32 teams was the first time FIFA allowed referees to wear mini cameras. Collina said the new measure was widely welcomed. The main purpose of the trial was to analyze whether broadcasting from the referee’s perspective could provide a better viewing experience for TV audiences and online fans. Collina said: “The effect of referees wearing mini cameras exceeded all expectations. We believe it will be an interesting experience for the audience, and in fact, we received very good feedback — people even asked us why we didn’t apply it to all matches and other sports.” This move not only enhanced the entertainment value for fans but also greatly benefited FIFA. Collina added: “It allows us to see the referee’s view on the field. We don’t just use it for entertainment; we also use it for training referees and explaining why some details are not visible on the pitch.”
