[Saba Sports News] The McLaren team has been nearly flawless this season, leading the Constructors’ Championship by a wide margin. Drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris firmly occupy the top two positions in the Drivers’ Championship standings. In the first 12 races, Piastri has secured five victories, while Norris has achieved four, with both drivers consistently battling closely. Currently, Piastri holds an 8-point lead over Norris.
In the recent Austrian Grand Prix, the two put on a thrilling showdown, racing fiercely yet respectfully, with Norris ultimately coming out on top. After the race, McLaren CEO Zak Brown praised both drivers, stating that the race was intense and clean, representing the epic battles F1 needs. He firmly declared that he would not interfere in the free competition between the two drivers for the sake of team interests.
Unlike Red Bull’s evident favoritism towards Max Verstappen or Mercedes’ past support for Lewis Hamilton, McLaren has chosen not to designate a number one driver. Brown explained that it would be unfair to ask one driver to yield to another simply because the latter has slightly more points.
