[Saba Sports News] The rumors about Max Verstappen potentially moving to Mercedes have intensified. Although he has a contract with Red Bull until 2028, if he drops out of the top four after the Hungarian Grand Prix, he could trigger a clause to leave. While it’s unlikely that the four-time F1 champion will leave in the short term, everything could change if Mercedes is willing to pay a reported £100 million in transfer fees. In response, 2009 F1 champion Jenson Button expressed caution regarding Verstappen’s potential move. He stated that Verstappen’s position at Red Bull is unshakable, as the car is tailored to his driving style, which has been a key factor in his continuous success. Moving to Mercedes would mean losing that advantage and facing challenges adapting to a new car. Button said he would prefer George Russell over Andrea Kimi Antonelli as Verstappen’s ideal teammate. He expressed openness to seeing a strong partnership between them but emphasized that Verstappen must face reality and not underestimate the complexity of the move.
