[Saba Sports News] As Ja Morant showcased his skills on the court against the New Orleans Pelicans, his father, Tee Morant, captured attention with his dance moves on the sidelines. A video of him dancing in front of Pelicans fans quickly went viral on social media. Tee, a significant figure in Ja’s journey to NBA success, is often seen supporting his son at games.
While Tee’s sideline celebration didn’t bother everyone, former NBA player Chandler Parsons expressed disapproval. While some might expect Tee, in his mid-40s, to exhibit more maturity, his actions were largely harmless and did not cause any distress.
Parsons also criticized Ja Morant for his ‘Pistols and Bazooka’ celebration during the game, especially given Ja’s previous suspensions related to social media posts involving guns. This celebration was actually a nod to a New Orleans dance, but it raised concerns due to the context of Ja’s past actions.
Tee wasn’t the only Morant family member receiving criticism; his daughter Niya responded to those criticizing her father. Tee, known for his enthusiastic support, seemed even more energized as Ja returned to the court following his 25-game suspension, playing impressively.
Ja Morant’s performance this season has been stellar, averaging 28.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 8.5 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game. The Memphis Grizzlies have a 4-0 record with him playing, including a 116-115 overtime victory against the Pelicans where Ja scored 31 points.
Regarding concerns about Ja’s inner circle amid his recent controversies, Tee Morant emphasized that there have been no changes. He defended the existing circle around Ja, insisting they are educated individuals and not negative influences. Tee also mentioned that Ja is not aiming to be the face of the NBA and compared the scrutiny his son faces to other league figures who have arguably done worse without similar backlash.
